I have been a member of the Greek national swimming team from 2001 up to 2012 and captain of The University of Alabama Swimming team where I lived and studied for 4 years. I have participated in the Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, and I have set 21 National Records. I have been placed among the 8 best swimmers in the world and the 4 best swimmers in Europe in races that lasted under 21”. Now I am called on to swim for a few hours in water temperatures below 18o C, when the pool temperature is between 26o to 27o C. The challenge seems enormous, but the thought of what we are about to fulfill, helping those in need, gives me strength both mentally and physically. I hope that I can make my few-month old daughter proud and also inspire other young or older athletes that I welcome in our country for sports events, in doing likewise. Special thanks to the rest of the group for sharing this lifetime experience with me.
